Admission Process for Private School Students

Due to an LAUSD policy change, private school students who reside within LAUSD boundaries can now request gifted identification. These requests must be made of the student's public school of residence. Verification of the residential address will be required for students not attending an LAUSD school. The school of residence and the parent will work with the student's school of attendance (private school) to collect documentation and proper signatures. The application will then be submitted by the school of residence.

For families interested in Portola Highly Gifted Magnet, the request for an intellectual assessment should be made no later than the middle of 4th grade to allow for the scheduling and administration of the test. Ideally a student should be identified as highly gifted (HG) or highly gifted applicable (HGA) upon entering 5th grade. This timeframe will allow parents to apply through the eChoices website prior to the close of the application window, which is typically in the middle of November.

Please feel free to call the magnet office at 818-654-3355 should you need further assistance.
