About the Teacher-Librarian

I started as Portola’s Library Media Teacher in September 2000 and it’s been fun ever since!  Of course I love to read, but most of all I enjoy having discussions with students on what they enjoy reading.  If you have any suggestions for book purchases, please tell me.

Prior to being at Portola I taught adult school, English as a Second Language for the LAUSD.  At first I was concerned about switching to middle school, but it is great working with the terrific students and teachers here at Portola.  I’ve been fortunate to have experienced some exciting career opportunities, including working as editor for the Cousteau Society’s ocean environment magazine.  Reading, writing, and teaching seem to go together for me.

I live not far from school and enjoy hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains with my husband, two grown-up children and our dogs.  Of course, traveling to other countries offers more hiking and educational possibilities and I hope to get to New Zealand one day.

Even as a child growing up in Montreal, Canada, I loved playing school with my friends and getting everything in my room in order.  I am particularly lucky to be at Portola with its wonderful “ethnic mix” of students and faculty.  Come visit me in the library!
