Physical Science will cover:
- Experimentation and Data Analysis

- Chemistry
- Astronomy
This course will follow the Los Angles Unified School District and California State Standards for the 8th Grade Science Curriculum.
We will use a variety of methods and technologies in this course including: computers, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, interactive software, demonstrations using the digital arm (for projection), direct instruction, instructional videos, interactive web sites, and a variety of internet based assignments. Projects, labs, activities, and student demonstrations/reports will be used throughout the course.
Handouts, textual materials, web based resources and other materials will be used to extend the curriculum so that students who apply themseleves will be prepared for the study of advanced science in High School, including the option of enrolling in Biology in the 9th grade.
By it's nature the study of Physical Science will involve a great deal of mathematics;
this is especially true of the first three months of the course. We will also be very "hands-on" with labs, activites and inquiry based approaches.
I hope to give students 3-4 lab experiences each month, this will include work in the computer labs at Portola.
